FRSC and the Enforcement of Motorcycle Helmet


The Federal Road Safety Commission (FRSC) has said that today remains sacrosanct for all motorcyclists and their passengers across the country to totally comply with the law on the wearing of safety helmet.

The FRSC Corps Marshal, Mr. Osita Chidoka warned that any motorcyclist that flouts the law would be made to face the full wrath of the law, adding that his men would be on the roads to enforce the law commencing from the New Year day contrary to media reports that the enforcement would begin on January 8.

The Corps Public Relations Officer of the FRSC, Mr. Wole Olaniran, who spoke on behalf of the Corps Marshal, explained that a joint task force, comprising the police, FRSC officials, representatives of motorcycle riders association and other relevant stakeholders, had been constituted to implement the law to the letter.

A statement made available to newsmen in Ibadan by the Head of Liaison and Field Monitoring at the Commission, Mr. Ayodele Ajadi,on behalf of Mr. Olaniran revealed that Thursday January 1, 2009 date was already a law binding on all motorcyclists whether private or commercial.
The statement said that in the last two weeks, management staff of the commission led by Mr. Chidoka has been on a major road and highways across the 36 states of the federation and Abuja to sensitise and educate Nigerians on the importance of helmet for motorcyclists and their passengers.
“For the avoidance of doubt, the January 1 date has come to stay and all machineries had been put in place to implement the law to the letter,” the statement read in part.
